Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention – “Montana”

From the album Over-Nite Sensation (1973)

Describe Frank Zappa in 100 words or less… Zappa was a genius, an eccentric, a workaholic, a satirist, a visionary, a one of a kind.  Zappa was weird, no doubt.  He could play jazz, rock and classical, often with heavy doses of humor, satirical, sophomoric, sophisticated and even musical. He formed a great band by the name of The Mothers of Invention, and he worked them hard.  Like Miles Davis, James Brown and Prince, he made great demands of his band, and expected excellence and to have his every creation executed with precision.  So when he presented to his band a cowboy epic about harvesting some dental floss crops, his band met those demands.  Perhaps the people who had it hardest in this track were the guest back-up singers, The Ikettes and Tina Turner.  This is one example of the kind of music that Zappa performed, but there are many shades to this unique individual.
