Ohio Players – “Love Rollercoaster”

From the album Honey (1975)

Your love is like a rollercoaster baby, baby
All you do is ride (I like to ride, I like to ride, high)
Your love is like a rollercoaster baby, baby
(Wow, wow, wow, child, woo) All you do is ride
(Girl, love rollercoaster, girl)

William Beck – Leroy “Sugarfoot” Bonner – Marshall “Rock” Jones – Ralph “Pee Wee” Middlebrooks –  Marvin Pierce – Clarence “Satch” Satchell – James “Diamond” Williams

This song is the subject of a popular urban myth, wherein the studio mics pick up the shriek of a woman being murdered in the next studio over (about 1.5 minutes into the single version, one minute later in the album version).  In actuality wasn’t actually a crime or mishap, and it wasn’t actually a woman, it was keyboardist William Beck shrieking.  The Ohio Players are one of the greatest funk bands ever.  Most of their compilations just cover their recordings for the Mercury label (“Love Rollercoaster” was from this period), however, any true fan of the funk must dig a little deeper into their albums for the Westbound label to hear the band at their quirkiest.  The band is equally well known for their risqué album covers.  This song was also covered in the 1990’s by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
